"Ebby" Gerry began racing as an amateur in 1951 when he owned horses individually and with his brother and sister in the Lake Delaware Stable. Following the death of their great-uncle, E. Roland Harriman, they became partners in the famed Arden Homestead Stable. Prior to his formal association with the Arden Stable. "Ebby" Gerry's best horse was Geranium, timed in 1:56.3 and voted the outstanding two-, three- and four-year-old trotting filly in New York from 1972 through 1974. Prominent horses owned through the Arden Homestead Stable include Me Maggie, winner of two Breeders Crowns; Torway, winner of a heat in the Hambletonian; Victorious Tail, Foot Bowl and Maralie Lobell. Gerry is president of the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame, first vice president, assistant treasurer and member of the Executive Committee of The Hambletonian Society, a director of the Delvin Miller Amateur Drivers Association and an alternate steward of the Grand Circuit. As an amateur driver "Ebby" Gerry has participated in the Billings Classic since it was established in 1981.
